The Shipping & Handling tab of your configuration allows you to control what shipping methods you offer, where you ship, if you charge handling, and if you offer will call pick up.
To be ready to set up your Shipping & Handling tab, you will need to know what type of shipping you would like to use. Basic shipping, handling charges, international shipping, and quote shipping will be strictly based off of the information that you enter on this tab and/or the price of the products added to your customer's cart. On the contrary, calculated shipping (such as FedEx, UPS, and USPS) will be determined using the weight of the product(s) and the shipping destination.
Complete the following to access this tab in Web Shop Manager.
Below is a list of each field in the Shipping & Handling tab.

| Default Country | This dropdown indicates the country that will the default when displaying a listing of countries for the customers to select from on the Checkout Screen. The default is United States. Most WSM users will select the country that they are located in as the Default Country. |
| Available Countries | This list of checkboxes allows you to choose which countries will be available for your customers to select for their billing & shipping addresses. When selecting countries outside of the U.S., confirm that you have either enabled International Shipping or you have selected appropriate method within UPS, FedEx and/or USPS. |
| Non-Cont. U.S. Remark | This field offers a place to enter a message for orders which are being shipping to Hawaii or Alaska. This message will be displayed directly above the Submit Order button on the checkout pag. This is good if you don't want to block shipping or charge a surcharge, but want to warn these customers that the shipping amounts shown are only an estimate to ship to their location. Notice: If the Non-Cont. U.S. Block is set, entering a message here will have no effect because Hawaii and Alaska addresses will be rejected. |
| Handling Label | This field offers a place to enter the text you would like to be displayed when handling is used on your site. If left blank the label is displayed as "Handling". |
| Handling Percent Charge | This field offers a place to enter the percentage you want calculated based on the orders subtotal. When this feature is used it will add the calculated amount to the Product Handling amount(s), if used on products. The percentage should be entered in decimal format, 0.10 is 10%. |
| Handling Base Charge | This field offers a place to enter a flat rate handling amount that will be added to any Product Handling amount(s), if used, during checkout. |
| Handling Minimum Charge | This field offers a place to enter the a handling amount that is the minimum amount for any order. For example if you use a Handling Percent of .10 and your order subtotal is $5.00 the handling amount would be 50 cents. However, if you entered 1.00 in the Handling Minimum Charge field then your customer would be charged $1.00. |
| Quote Shipping | The shipping quote method is automatically activated when a customer has one or more products with the Quote Shipping set to Yes. If a customer adds a product to their cart that has Quote Shipping set to yes, no other shipping methods will be available to them on checkout. Quote shipping is typically used for oversized products that require truck freight. Note: Available for U.S. only. |
| Free Shipping | When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method is active. Additional fields will be viewable for you to enter the settings for this shipping method. Display Name: This is the label that will be viewable by the customer when the order mets the requirements. If no value is enter the label will be Free Shipping. It is popular to enter what they are receiving for free, such as Free UPS Ground. Message: This text box offers you the ability to enter additional information about the Free Shipping method or requirements. This message will only appear on the checkout screen when the method is selected. A common use of this field is "Free Shipping for a limited time only" or "Free Shipping ends on May 1". Required Subtotal: Enter the required minimum cart subtotal that must be reached before this method is displayed as a shipping option. Block P.O. Boxes: When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method will not appear if the customers enters a PO Box as their shipping address. Note: Available for U.S. only. |
| Basic Shipping | When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method is active. Additional fields will be viewable for you to enter the settings for this shipping method. Available for United States, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, Northan Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Palau, and Virgin Islands. Basic shipping allows you to control shipping charges based on a flat rate and/or a percentage of sales and does NOT take into consideration the weight, size or destination of the product(s). Display Name: This is the label that will be viewable by the customer. If no value is enter the label will be Basic Shipping. Message: This text box offers you the ability to enter additional information about the Basic Shipping method. This message will only appear on the checkout screen when the method is selected. Commonly this is used to notify customers of when they will receive their order, ie. "7-10 Business Days". Required Subtotal: Enter the required minimum cart subtotal that must be reached before this method is displayed as a shipping option. Base Charge: This field offers a place to enter the starting shipping amount that will be added to the Percent Charge (see next field) and/or any Product Shipping amount(s), if used, during checkout. Percent Charge: This field offers a place to enter the percentage you want calculated based on the orders subtotal. When this feature is used it will add the calculated amount to the Base Charge and/or Product Handling amount(s), if used on products. The percentage should be entered in decimal format, 0.10 is 10%. Minimum Charge: This field offers a place to enter an amount that is the minimum amount for any order using this method. For example if you use a Percentage Charge of .10 and your order subtotal is $5.00 the Basic Shipping amount would be 50 cents. However, if you entered 1.00 in the Minimum Charge field then your customer would be charged $1.00. Block Non-Cont. U.S.: When the Enabled checkbox is selected customers with a shipping address in Hawaii or Alaska will not be offered this method. Non-Cont. U.S. Surcharge: If you are shipping to Hawaii or Alaska, this field offers a place to enter an amount that will be added to the total shipping charge for customers with shipping addresses in Hawaii or Alaska. Block P.O. Boxes: When the Enabled checkbox is selected customers with a P.O. Box shipping address will not be offered this method. P.O. Box Surcharge: If you are shipping to P.O. Boxes, this field offers a place to enter an amount that will be added to the total shipping charge for customers with P.O. Box shipping address. Note: Available for U.S. only. |
| International Shipping | When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method is active. International shipping allows you to offer set rates for any Non-U.S. shipping addresses and does NOT take into consideration the weight, size or destination of the product(s). Display Name: This is the label that will be viewable by the customer. If no value is enter the label will be International Shipping. Message: This text box offers you the ability to enter additional information about the International Shipping method. This message will only appear on the checkout screen when the method is selected. Commonly this is used to notify customers if the displayed amount is only an esitmate or when the customer will receive their order. Required Subtotal: Enter the required minimum cart subtotal that must be reached before this method is displayed as a shipping option. Base Charge: This field offers a place to enter the starting shipping amount that will be added to the Percent Charge (see next field) and/or any Product Shipping amount(s), if used, during checkout. Percent Charge: This field offers a place to enter the percentage you want calculated based on the orders subtotal. When this feature is used it will add the calculated amount to the Base Charge and/or Product Handling amount(s), if used on products. The percentage should be entered in decimal format, 0.10 is 10%. | Will Call Shipping | When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method is active. Even when enabled, this method will only be displayed to customers who enter a Shipping Address with the same state as you, which is controlled in your Site Information tab. Display Name: This is the label that will be viewable by the customer. If no value is enter the label will be "Local Pickup". Message: This text box offers you the ability to enter additional information about the Will Call method. This message will only appear on the checkout screen when the method is selected. Commonly this is used to confirm that the customer will be picking their order and/or to display your address for pickup. Sales Tax Override: This field offers a place to enter the sales tax that will be used when Will Call is selected, if no sales tax percentage is entered the sales tax will be calculated from the percentage entered on your Payment & Processing tab. This feild is typically used when the sales tax in the pickup location is significantly different than the state wide sales tax percentage. Required Groups: When the Enabled checkbox is selected, Will Call pickup will only be availble to registered customers that are also in a customer group. This is typically used when you only want to offer pickup for certain customers. |
| UPS Shipping | When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method is active. UPS is a calculated shipping method that takes into consideration the weight and destination of the product(s). Once enabled a list of available shipping methods will be displayed. Please select the checkbox for each method that you would like to offer on your site. It is best to not offer more methods than needed, in the inerest of not confusing your customers. Use Negotiated Rates: When the Enabled checkbox is selected additional required fields will appear that allow you to pass along discounts that you may receive from UPS. If this is not selected, UPS' counter rates will be used. Access License Number: This field offers a place to enter your UPS Access License Number that can be obtained from your account on UPS.com. User Id: This field offers a place to enter your UPS User ID which is the same User Id that you use to log into UPS.com. Password: This field offers a place to enter your UPS Password which is the same Password that you use to log into UPS.com. Shipper Number: This field offers a place to enter your UPS Shipper Number which is assigned to you by UPS, you can find yours by logging into UPS.com Adjustment Amount: This field offers a place to enter an amount that will be added to the shipping amount returned by UPS. This is commonly used when your negotiated rate is less than you want your customers to pay and you want to increase it by a fixed amount. This can be used in addition to the Adjustment Percent. Adjustment Percent: This field offers a place to enter a percentage that will be calculated based on the shipping amount returned by UPS and added to the returned amount. This is commonly used when your negotiated rate is less than you want your customers to pay and you want to increase it by a specific percent. This can be used in addition to the Adjustment Amount but is calculated based on the orginal returned shipping amount. |
| FedEx Shipping | When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method is active. FedEx is a calculated shipping method that takes into consideration the weight and destination of the product(s). You can not use FedEx with WSM without a FedEx account, please contact a FedEx representative for additional information on account setup and/or the below fields. Once enabled a list of available shipping methods will be displayed. Please select the checkbox for each method that you would like to offer on your site. It is best to not offer more methods than needed, in the inerest of not confusing your customers. * Key: This field offers a place to enter your FedEx Key, contact your FedEx representative or log into the developers section of FedEx.com. * Password: This field offers a place to enter your FedEx Password, contact your FedEx representative or log into the developers section of FedEx.com. * Account Number: This field offers a place to enter your FedEx Account Number, contact your FedEx representative or log into the developers section of FedEx.com. * Meter Number: This field offers a place to enter your FedEx Meter Number, contact your FedEx representative or log into the developers section of FedEx.com. | USPS Shipping |
When the Enabled checkbox is selected this method is active. USPS is a calculated shipping method that takes into consideration the weight, destination of the product(s) and may use product demensions. Once enabled a list of available shipping methods will be displayed. Please select the checkbox for each method that you would like to offer on your site. It is best to not offer more methods than needed, in the inerest of not confusing your customers. Use International Commercial Rate: When the Enabled checkbox is selected your customers will be offered the Commercial Shipper Rates which are cheaper than the Internations Counter Rates. |
Each time you edit the information on your Site's Configuration, it is important that you click the Save Changes button before navigation to another menu option in Web Shop Manager. Note: you can be on any tab on the System's Configuration screen when you click Save Changes and it will save the changes on all tabs.
Shipping & Handling may be the most important part of setting up your configuration. Keep in mind that you can edit your shipping methods at any time to test what combinations of free shipping or discounted rates increase conversion rates among your customer. Shipping rates can have a great effect, positive and negative, on conversions. When editing shipping methods, make sure to take the time to proceed to checkout with a few different products to confirm that your customers will experience your desired shippping options.
